The Philip Lawrence Awards reward outstanding achievements in good citizenship by young people aged 11 to 20.

The national scheme recognises groups that are making a real contribution to their local community and the lives of others; and groups that promote respect and understanding of faiths, culture and communities internationally. The focus is on exemplary activities - examples of young people working together, promoting citizenship and overcoming the difficult situations some young people face.

The Awards were set up in memory of head teacher Philip Lawrence, who was killed in December 1995. Philip Lawrence inspired many young people, and the Awards commemorate his deeply held conviction that all young people are capable of achieving great things.

Since 1997, over 95 groups have received a Philip Lawrence Award. The outstanding results have proved that the Awards have been a huge success in promoting youth involvement in local communities, social behaviour, self-esteem and continual participation in valuable neighbourhood activities
